Indonesia Immigration Requirements
The PT Freeport Indonesia Jobsite in Papua is a restricted area of Indonesia which requires a cable approval from the Government of Indonesia (GOI) to obtain a travel visa.
Visas allowing entry to Papua are not issued upon arrival in Indonesia. Travelers must have a cable approved visa placed in their passport by the Indonesian Consulate prior to travel, regardless of citizenship.
The processing time involved varies based on the type of visa needed. The Government of Indonesia can delay processing of the cable approval at any time, and the Indonesian Consulates in the US and throughout the world have frequent, unannounced holidays. Traveling to Indonesia on an incorrect visa will not only cause a problem for the company with immigration officials, but can also result in detainment and/or deportation of the traveler.
If you are planning a trip to Indonesia you must email the Global Mobility Specialist with the following information to begin the cable approval and visa process:
Color scan of passport photo page
Name of PTFI site sponsor
Statement as to the nature of your business at site
Name of the person approving and/or requesting your travel
Tentative travel dates
Tentative length of stay
Embassy location for Travelers located outside of North America
The visa index number is determined by the purpose of visit and length of stay. Additional documents may be required.
Once cable approval and letter of invitation are received, the traveler will send the following items to the Global Mobility Specialist to continue the visa process through the Embassy in Washington DC:
Original passport (must be signed and have at least two consecutive blank visa pages and at least 6 months remaining validity)
2 Application forms with original signatures
2 Recent passport-type photos (color with white background)
Itinerary (If you do not have a finalized itinerary, do not let this delay processing of your visa. The Documentation Team will create one for processing purposes.)
Once all requirements are received and submitted to the Embassy in Washington DC, standard visa processing is approximately 5 business days. Expedited processing is available if necessary.
